‘What Makes us Happy’ – Project 49, The Jigsaw Centre & Level Best Enterprises

This October, Level Best will be hosting the ‘What Makes Us Happy’ exhibition, featuring artworks from Project 49, The Jigsaw Centre, and Level Best Enterprises itself!

The exciting new project, spearheaded by Andy Downes of The Little-Known Studio in Southend and Alice Nicholls of The Fine Art of Tattoo, will celebrate diversity, and highlight the talents and creativity of artists who have so often been marginalised from the spotlight.

The exhibition, designed to connect artistic talent across cities, will be taking over our gallery starting October 2nd 2023 – October 31st 2023. This exhibition is the beginning of an inclusive programme that aims to elevate the visibility of visual artists with additional needs. The Little-Known Studio and The Fine Art of Tattoo are well-established in their local communities and are on a mission to unite communities through art, whilst simultaneously introducing individuals to the world of art through a widely unexplored perspective.

The Jigsaw Centre, one of two of Autism Anglia’s specialist centres in Colchester, provides opportunities for adults with autism, supporting the growth and personal development of those living with additional needs. From horticulture and creative studies to textiles and well-being, the centre backs a wide range of creative practices and media-driven projects, giving the freedom of expression to its service users and aims to reach a wider audience for its skilled artists. The centre has hand-picked specific pieces of artwork from their artists for the exhibition, designed to introduce individuals to the work and talents of local artists.

Like The Jigsaw Centre, Project 49, based in Leigh-On-Sea, provides day services to adults with learning disabilities, and pioneers artistic projects through innovative and inclusive workshops. With an ongoing focus on stencil street art, the services are designed to forge new relationships and nurture the talents of its service users.

We’re delighted to be playing host for this special exhibition in our purpose-built gallery space, uniting artists from different experiences, collections and cities.
